Is a cleaning app even real? The robot vacuum cleaners market keeps growing on par with their increasing demand. With multiple prominent competitors, companies have to offer genuinely high-quality products with constantly improving features in order to stand out.

Consumers nowadays don’t want to spend too much time on dull, recurring chores such as vacuuming. The introduction of robot vacuum cleaners was a disruptive change that brought a new level of convenience to people’s lives; but, as they say, there is always a good choice and there is always a better choice.

As time goes by, companies continue to introduce robots with more innovative features and functionalities powered by AI and IoT. The challenge nowadays is not to come up with yet another robot vacuum cleaner that can be managed remotely, but one that actually does what it promises without bugs, going rogue, or malfunctioning.

SharkNinja, a major American designer and distributor of home appliances and devices, offers one of the most reliable robot vacuum cleaners in the market. In collaboration with VOLO, the company has been constantly improving its remote controlling mobile cleaning app and perfecting the functionalities of the robots.

The Challenge

The SharkNinja team approached VOLO with the need to finetune and revamp an already existing mobile house cleaning app for their robot vacuum cleaners. The app was already compatible with both iOS and Android. It allowed users to control the robot by scheduling cleaning times, determining the high-traffic zones that need thorough cleaning, or those that don’t need any, creating cleaning reports, etc. All of these features sounded great, but you couldn’t say the same when it came to seeing them in action.

The cleaning app was rather buggy and slow due to certain technical flaws. SharkNinja was having a hard time reaching their target audience with an app that doesn’t live up to the market standards. They needed a trustworthy software outsourcing partner who would help them handle this challenge and bring the application up to speed.

Beyond improving the mobile application, the long-term goal was to make the management of robot vacuums easier, thus increasing the speed and efficiency of the overall cleaning process.

The Solution

Our team took on the challenge of breathing new life into this highly used and useful cleaning app and turning it into a tool that would meet the expectations of even the most scrupulous users.

Throughout the course of our collaboration with SharkNinja, we managed to improve the app from multiple aspects. By fixing the existing flaws and faulty features and adding new functionalities, we now have a highly scalable app, rebuilt for both iOS and Android users, that enables smooth user experience and easy remote control of the robots.

Currently, the cleaning app provides close-to-flawless functioning of all the above-listed features, is highly user-friendly, and intuitive with simple UI and UX.
